Health Research
Health research aims to find better ways to treat, prevent and cure disease.
This vital component of healthcare can take multiple forms and present a variety of risks and opportunities. Whether it is a clinical trial, secondary data research, research ethics board protocol review, or a material transfer agreement, we keep the aims of the study top of mind while advising researchers, funders, and health care organizations. We also advise on deidentification of data for research purposes, and questions of research versus quality.
Our services include:
-

Tamara is an associate at INQ Law. Her practice focuses on privacy, cybersecurity, and privacy incident response; health information protection; complex enterprise technology agreements; data sharing; and freedom of information.
Tamara routinely advises clients on a broad range of issues involving privacy, cyber preparedness, breach response, privacy risk mitigation, complex enterprise technology and AI service arrangements, including the review and interpretation of layered vendor contract frameworks. Tamara works closely with clients and other practice groups at INQ to provide sector-specific advice that’s tailored to each client’s needs. In breach response matters, Tamara can also draw on a network of reputable vendors in crisis communications, forensic services, insurance, and IT support.
Tamara recognizes that information is central to business and technology, and works to help clients in the health, commercial, public, and broader public sectors understand the information they possess, the applicable data protection laws, and how to use data responsibly to achieve their goals.
Tamara holds both a law degree and a master’s degree in medical ethics, has served as an Adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University’s Schulich School of Law, and prioritizes speaking at educational programs for legal and privacy audiences. Prior to joining INQ Law, Tamara held roles across litigation, public policy, and private practice, including clerking for the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories, working at a plaintiff-side medical malpractice firm, supporting the policy team responsible for Ontario’s health privacy legislation, and practising as a sole practitioner and consultant in privacy and health law.
